No More Body Bags by digitalgrace No More Body Bags by digitalgrace
I wish I knew her story. For some reason I am hesitant to talk with anyone while I am photographing, then when I get back home and view the photos on my computer, I wish so much that I had at least given my card to the people I had photographed so they could get a photo if they wanted. Maybe next time I will be more thoughtful of this ;)

WHERE: Waterfront Park in Portland, Oregon
WHAT: Protest marking the 3 year anniversary of the US lead Iraq invasion
WHEN: March 19th 2006

She looks so somber - in a lot of your photos I see people with very intense expressions. Very nice photo.

My boyfriend is in the Marines. I hate the war personally, but I support him in what he wants to do.

But I seriously am in love with this photo.
ha.<3

Nicely done.

Fine photograph. You've managed to capture so much dignity and sorrow in the face. To me, this figure is humanity giving a presence to conscience. Great work.

I think this photo works extra on people our age that remember the TV public service announcement featuring the American Indian crying when he sees all the litter as he rides his horse... at least it does for me ;)

Yes, I remember that. It was very strong. Your image is also strong, but I see it a little differently from the other. What I see, in addition to your skill in photography, is the stoic willingness to stand and give witness, no matter what, to an insane situation, i.e., a war based on a lie. The courage to stand there, to just be there with a message that no more of us should die for that lie is, for me, the power of your photograph. We all read what we need to in looking at a photographic image. If my interpretation is not yours, that speaks to the breadth of its message. You're doing a great job with this stuff, Danny.

And I'm sure she's sure people won't use that to say the people against the war are all made weasel wearing bag ladies....
I mean, I think the hat's wicked cool, but I can think of many conservative Bush supporters who would gladly use it against her.

A good photo can tell the story better then the person on it might be able to. Not as much in details, but in essence. I think you captured the most important elements of this person, so great job once again.
